Ingrid was born in London in 1959. She studied Art and Design at Southampton City College, then went on to Portsmouth University and Southampton Solent University where she studied Fine Art. After graduating in 2005 was awarded a City Council funded bursary through the arts orgnisation ‘a-space’. This provided a free studio space for one year, in a city centre location, giving her the chance to continue with her painting practice immediately after university – a fantastic opportunity which has allowed her to develop a business specialising in oil painted portraits. Now in her third year at the Arches, Ingrid continues to produce work to commission.
I aim to capture the essence of an individual in a less conventional fashion to that of a traditional portrait artist. Working with oil paint on board, from a selected photograph, my work celebrates the play between artist and paint, whilst also referencing the contemporary nature of the source material. Colour, texture and shape, along with spontaneous mark making are intrinsic to my painting practice, creating pieces which endeavour to reflect the unique nature of each subject.
